Sexist violence and online harassment

Key points

  • At a protest: stay with your buddy and agree on a signal.
  • Sexist or sexual violence: 3919, free and anonymous, 24/7.
  • Online harassment: don't reply, take dated screenshots, report (platform, Pharos).
  • Cyberbullying: 3018, which also helps get content removed.

Crowds, chaos and exposure on social media create specific risks. You are not alone: free helplines exist.

At the protest

  • Stay with your buddy and agree on a signal to step away (never stay alone).
  • If someone assaults or gropes you: move away, alert your group, the stewards or street medics.
  • Afterwards: you can have it recorded by a doctor, file a complaint, and call 3919, a free anonymous 24/7 line for victims of sexist and sexual violence.1

Online: harassment and doxxing

Posting your protest photos can expose you to harassment or to your personal details being published ("doxxing").

  • Don't reply: keep screenshots showing the page address and the date.
  • Report the content to the platform, then on PHAROS if it is illegal (threats, calls to violence).2
  • Call 3018, the free national number against cyberharassment, which also helps get content removed.3
  • Request removal of your personal data published online.4
  • Publishing someone's private information to expose them to a risk is an offence in France, punishable by 3 years in prison and a €45,000 fine.5
